I read all the reviews on Zune and was excited to have ordered one and couldn't wait for it arrive. My excitement faded fast once it arrived. First of all, it arrived dead in the box. You have to charge it first before doing anything with it. The charging took about 3 hours. After that you go through the process of updating the firmware, installing the Zune application on your PC and etc. After all the setup is done, you're finally able to add music and games to the player. I really hoped that things would get better, but the Zune marketplace is kind of quirky too and has some bugs. Overall I am very disappointed with the sound of the this player. My ears were bleeding from all the high treble and no bass. I have two kick as pair of headphones that help me survive at work to mask all the noise from nearby cubicle neighbors...so I know the headphones were fine, so it had to be the player. The songs sounded awful on the player. Now let's move onto the touch pad on this thing. The touch pad really blows. It's like trying to pickup dimes when your hands have fallen asleep. JUST PLAIN AWFUL! The player really sucks. Now if you really want an MP3 player that kicks butt, try the Sansa Clip. It will blow you away. The SAnsa clip has awesome sound in a small package. Also the Rhapsody software is much better to use. My recommendation would to be not to buy this MP3 player and get a Sansa clip.

Great player !!!

The Zune 4GB is now enhanced with a firmware upgrade and a new software interface. This makes the Zune bug-free, stable and easy to use. Considering the great sound quality, I don't see any reason why would anyone buy a nano ??

A Zune is so much better than an ipod! The software for a Zune is much funner to use than itunes. You get to look at a cool background every time you turn it on. Its cool how you get to see the cover of all your albums. very artsy and chill. I like the fact that it comes with a radio( only F.M. thoug). You can save pics and vids. very cool.

It's all about the music.....
5 / 5.0
The Zune 8Gb is a good media player. Is it better that everything else out there? No, not that I've seen. Battery life is good (make sure you do about 5 or 6 full discharges and charges before passing judgment), interface is good, sound quality is good.....blah, blah blah, good, but nothing earth shattering. So why 5 stars? Because Zune Marketplace is the best thing to happen to music since the electric guitar. Seriously, for $15 a month I get 10 songs to keep and access to millions of songs. I can download as many damn songs as I want, the whole Stones catalog? You name it..... well, I've run into a few that are not available, I'd say less than 5% of what I looked up and it's usually something obscure that only the geekiest [...] reviewer would know. Heidi Spencer's two small time Milwaukee releases are on the Marketplace....and they're great too! And, Heidi, you owe me a double espresso. So, for a $5 a month premium over 10 songs on iTunes, you increase your music collection by a few hundred thousand titles (entire albums, if you're 35 or older, CDs if younger). If you love music, get a Zune, it's that simple. If you want apps and blah , blah ,blah buy an iPod Touch. However, MS is making a big mistake by discontinuing every player outside of the Zune HD. I'd never want to take an HD to the gym, it's too big and beautiful to get knocked around and soaked in sweat. This one is portable enough to carry around, stick in your waistband, and Griffen makes a great clear case that covers everything but the inputs and buttons to protect it.

I originally bought the Zune 4gb in Nov. 2008. After much frustration and surfing the net for answers and calling the Geeks at Best Buy for help, I finally figured out how to rip cd's. These instructions were not outlined in the instruction booklet that came with the device. This booklet also didn't tell you how to lock your device so it couldn't be accidentally turned, nor did it tell you what the two bars under the battery meant (pause). It took about two weeks and many phone calls to the Geek Squad to help answer my questions. I figured out how to set all the settings to the lowest to extend the battery life. The problem I was experiencing was that the battery life seemed to be only 3 or 4 hours and the device seized up often and would only unseize when plugged into a power source. The Geeks determined that the device may be defective and I returned it in Feb. 2009 in exchange for a new one. You can tell how long I struggled with it. Well, I have the same problem with my new device. If I fully charge the battery and just let it run, I can get 23 hours out of the battery which is close to what is advertised. However, if I use the device 3 or 4 times for less than an hour each time, the battery life is only about 3-4 hours. This is also with all the settings set at the lowest possible. This device also seized up frequently, especially if not used for a couple of days or more. I definitely am not happy with the Zune and often hear the phrase "welcome to microsoft" when I complain to my friends. One of my friends has an iPod and said he hadn't used it for almost a year. He took it out of his gym bag and it worked first time. He also says his iPod never seizes on him. Now, I have invested too much time and effort into this Zune and swear if it dies for good I will get an iPod.
